Dallas District Attorney, Craig Watkins : A Hero Of Our Time
Craig Watkins, is Dallas first African American District Attorney, and, he has been doing a tremendous job, while in this position. Craig’s heroic efforts has brought him into the national spotlight, on such talk shows like Larry King Live and other television events. Why has Dallas D.A. Craig Watkins, received so much attention? It is very simple, he is doing something out of the norm. Craig has been very instrumental in getting innocent individuals who were convicted of felonies exonerated. More than 95% of the individuals who have been set free by the efforts of Craig Watkins, have been African American males. These black males were railroaded by the racist white power structure in Dallas. Now one would think that many would admire, Mr. Watkins for his actions. However, his efforts have been applauded more on the national level than local. According to “D” Magazine, in its March 2009 issue, Craig is hated by people in his own office. District Attorney Watkins, is an excellent example of a true African American male who stands up for what he believes in and he is not afraid of the status quo. According to “D” Magazine, he is labeled as an ” American Rebel”, by many of those of the traditional political culture in Dallas, but, to the average Dallas resident, black, white, or brown, Mr. Watkins is a hero of their time. No, Craig is not perfect, but, then again, no one else is either. It is his courageous efforts, that really makes him stand out, especially at a time when one can easily observe a backlash against President Obama, by a lot of white communities across this nation. Anytime an African American male is doing something positive, he is going to catch a great deal of slack, by the traditional groups who have been in power, and, I do agree with “D” Magazine, when it pointed out that Craig Watkins is changing the way that our nation thinks about justice. Thanks to Dallas District Attorney Craig Watkins for all of the hard-work that he is doing in big “D”. He is one African American male, that is making a difference in the lives of many, and, he is definitely not a “Sambo”.

I to have heard of Dallas District Attorney, Craig Watkins, and I watched his show when it was on air, last year. I also believe that Mr. Watkins is a hero for individuals who are wrongfully accused. It is a same that 95% of the males that have been released are african american males. It just goes go to show, how evil others can be, just because of the color of your skin. Amaxingly it took an African American male to set thing right in the 21st century. I believe that other cities and states should adopt to this new process, and let those who are truly innocent, free.
