The Politics Of Negativism

One thing that is very interesting, and that is, how blacks and others have the tendency to only focus on the negative aspects of the African American community, while highlighting the positive points in the white, Asian, and Hispanic communities. Even though God has brought the black man from the slave ship to the White House, for many individuals this is still not enough. Jesus Christ has blessed black folks mightily, just as He has every other group on planet earth. For example, the average American could not go through his or her day without, coming in contact with something that was invented by an African American. Below, are only a few examples of many inventions by African Americans, which has helped America to become a great nation:

(a) The Elevator

(b) The Traffic Light;

(c) The Clothes Dryer;

(d) The Lawn Mower;

(e) The American Clock;

(f) The Almanac;

(g) The Cabinet Bed;

(h) The Automatic Oiling Machine Device;

(I) Performed The First ” Open Heart Surgery ” ;

(J) First Sound System In A Movie Theater;

(K) A Major Hair Softener And Straightening Comb;

(L) Blood Plasma Banks.

There are hundreds of other inventions by African Americans which the world do not know, came from the minds of blacks. As a military kid, growing up in the United States and Europe, I use to hear that blacks were not smart enough to do this, and blacks were not smart enough to do that. Even as a young man growing into my adolescent years, and well into my twenties, I would hear such things as “ blacks were not smart enough to be quarterbacks, and, blacks were not intelligent enough to be coaches “. Well we all know that such statements simply were not true. We have black coaches in all of the three major sports in the U.S. , both professional and unprofessional. The same thing can be said, when it comes to African American quarterbacks, both in college and the N.F.L. . Mike Tomlin, of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tony Dungy, the former coach of the Indianapolis  Colts, have both won Super Bowls, and Doug Williams was the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, when he played for the Washington Redskins. Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans, was very instrumental in helping  Texas win a national championship when he was the quarterback for the Longhorns. In fact African Americans, have done practically everything that others said that they could not do, and, they accomplished these tasks under political oppression, economic exploitation, and social deprivation. African Americans have been, and still are, doctors, lawyers, professors, dentists, businessmen and business women, actors and actresses, professional athletes, mayors of cities, governors of states, and currently, a President of the United States of America. Now there are those who claim that Barack Obama is not really black,  but, all one has to do is, take Barack Obama, and throw him back in the 1920′s and 30′s in America, and he would  have to sit a back of the bus with the rest of the other blacks. After all, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) , that one ounce of black blood, means that a person is black. Barack Obama is 50% black, therefore, he is an African American. Also, everyone is mixed with something. There is no such thing as a pure white, black, brown, yellow, or red person. What individuals and groups must understand is that, there are also negative problems in the white, brown, yellow, and red communities as well. Yes, I am very much aware of the statistics, which know that 70% of children born in the inner city areas, are born without a father present, and, usually grow up with no positive role models. Yes, I am very much aware that unemployment is way above the national average in the black community, as well as the growth of black on black crime. However, none of these problems are new to the African American community. From the beginning, blacks in the U.S., have dealt with slavery, racism, segregation, class-ism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination, but, yet we made it, and, no matter what we are facing today, we will come out of it as well. After all, African Americans have a historical resume to prove it.
