All I can do is laugh after reading this article because it is definitely true. People say stupid, illogical statements ALL THE TIME without thinking. Like Jesus said the "THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK" phrase comes to mind. I don’t know how many times I've had to say that to either family members or friends. However, EVERYONE should say that they've been guilty of expressing illogical statements at one point in time. Sometimes, things like that just happen-it's apart of being a human being. The funny thing about it though is that you may poke fun at your family and friends when they do it, but when the jokes on you, you feel retarded/dumb. A person may just laugh it off or either get very angry because now the jokes on them lol. Some things in life are meant to be taken very seriously, while other things are meant to be out of humor - all depending on what the topic/situation it's being discussed over.

GOVT 2302 TR 11am-12:20

It is funny how such illogical statement become accept saying. Almost anything, no matter how crazy it sounds, repeated enough times sounds like the norm. This process is now accelerated with viral youtube video, 24/7 news, twitter, facebook, ect. Something can go from illogical and unacceptable to the norm almost over night without anyone taking the time to question its validity. As for the warm words spoken over those that pass, I think that in our humanity we will never get past trying to make ones life seem almost perfect once they die, in respect.

After reading all your illogical statements you got me thinking. Therefore; i read them again. You make sense but not everybody looks at them that way. Me my self, when it comes to women maturing quicker than men i believe is partially correct. Im not saying its a fact but in most cases women do mature quicker, id say about 80%. When it comes to modeling a girl that weights more than 115 pounds can loose weight. In other words, i don't beleive all but some of these statements are actually illogical.

These illogical statements and reactions are true. But then someone could say they are only true depending on whose eyes you are looking at the situation from. The reaction that you have when something is being said could be totally different from another persons when they hear the statement. Like when you say rush hour it may be a situation that is slow but they may call it that because even though it is moving slow people that are in the traffic are rushing home or rushing somewhere at the same time otherwise there wouldn't be traffic. The death of Mary Jane is shocking because people don't know when someone is going to die period. So every death is shocking because there is no human being that knows the time to die thats set for you.

I believe and agree fully with these "illogical statements". But people are not ever just going to sit down and think beyond these statements. But it would be a good idea if they did because, for example a parent should never tell a child they can do whatever they want and be whoever they want, when they do they have standards to meet and expectations from society. Always speak the truth and explained what someone can do, and what someone has the capacity to do with the talents and looks they were blessed with.

Illogical statements will always be around and has come to the point where it is natural to come accrose such statement. Some of Bowtie Professor's points are funny but true. One may say something and that person knows what they are talking about, but there may be others that interprit something else. I think it goes the same way with dirty minded people and others that pull jokes about what people say such as the Professor did so with the "rush hour traffic" statement.

Professor, I agree 100 % with what you have presented here. I believe that the media and regular people in general make these "illogical statements" because they want to make things sound better or worse to get emotions or a certain opinions of of the people, so they manipulate statements for that specific purpose. When they do this can can get any reaction out of the public they want so in turn they spin these statements to their advantage.

This actually made me laugh and think about each statement for a minute and made me realize that each statement is very true. But on the rush hour traffic one, I always thought it was called that because everyone is in a "rush" to get home but they get stuck in "traffic" ? But if taken literally then it is true. And maybe grandfather Willie didn't have an known enemies that his family actually knew off, so according to his family he did not have any enemies. Just a thought.

Yes, many people say things that sometimes, once closely analyzed, isn't logical. Many people are taught young by their parents in these exact words, "If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything!". Why would we make a statement saying, "I knew Mary Jane was gonna die"? This isn't exactly something someone would want to hear after one's death. Why would we say "Uncle Willie died this morning, with his stinky old self"? We would prefer to say something nicer as to console the family of Uncle Willie. I think most illogical statements are made to spare the feelings of the person being said to. I'm going to be the President some day, even though in our minds we know this person isn't President material, agreeing with them doesn't hurt their feelings but disagreeing will. We can make fun and poke jokes about the person saying them but in reality, would you rather hear the opposite?

Excellent point. And who puts out this information? THe media! And Who does the media? People! They try to brain wash us with superstitions and rewire our way of thinking. THey use our emotions and clever word phrasing to make us think how they want us to. They try to get a certain effect. I will think twice when i read something again.
