A Letter to God

Dear God,

sometimes I really don’t feel like serving you. At times to me you seem real, and at other times you don’t. Living for you Jesus Christ is no joke. Many Christians walk around with spiritual facades trying to make it seem like serving You is easy, but, it is not. When one is truly committed to You Jesus, he or she will constantly face a great deal of trials and tribulations.  But then again, You told us that this would be the case in your word. God, why do I constantly see Your people suffering at the hands of the people of the devil?  Why is it that, those who do not know you, seem to get all the worldly goods such as money, nice cars, clothes, big fabulous homes, and all the promotions on the jobs?  But yet, in the bible You tell Christians that we are the head and not the tail. God I know that as a Christian I am suppose to suffer for righteousness sake, and that my reward is in heaven. However, when do Christians become the head and not the tail?  How long shall Your people be at the mercy of the people of Satan?  Much of my suffering has been alone. Members of the church talk about love, but never show it. I go to church for relief, but cannot seem to find it. I constantly show love to the brothers and sisters both by words and actions, and it seems like the more I show love, the less I am loved. Also Jesus, it appears to me that the only people who seem to prosper in Your church, are the pastors and their families. Holy Spirit, why is it that many pastors have big mansions and compounds, jets and planes, Mercedes and Bentley’s, while many of the sheep in their congregations are catching the bus and can barely pay their rent? Jesus, I believe that if You were still walking here on earth, You would not have all these material possessions. America as a nation has gone so far from You Jesus, and she wants Your blessings, but she does not want You, unless of course, if there is some type of disaster or tragedy, such as the bombing on September 11,2001 or Hurricane Katrina, back in 2005. America and her leaders want your blessings heavenly Father, but they don’t want You, and yes, many Christians at times(including myself) wants Your blessing, but we don’t want you. The world is doomed without you Jesus Christ. Thanks God for reading this short letter.

Dear God, and of course, Bowtie professor.

As I read this, I can’t help but nod my head. There have been times, quite a bit, if I am to be honest, that i do not feel as though you are with me. But as one of my favorite songs convey, “You light up the sky to show me that you are with me.” And that is all well and good, but when one faces trials and tribulations, come out of it, just to be faced with another set…..the task can be quite overwhelming. Like bowtie professor, I too had to go through life relatively alone as well. While I did have family around, they either didn’t know how to help or just chose not to help at all. There were those who were invaluable and I would trade nothing for them. But one can only deal with so much at any one time. As another one of your (bowtie professor) posts state, we are all in need of a Moses, Elijah, and most notable…Paul, moments for us to “really” get it. I have had “moments in my life where i can see some things and why I had to go through what I did, but I think I am still waiting for my, let’s call it Paul moment, to shine through. I am very thankfull for all my God has done for me and cannot wait to see You when I die, but some perspective now couldn’t hurt could it? That is when I know I need to turn to the Truth, the Bible. There in Your word will I be given perspective. It will not always be as easy as picking a white sheep out of ten black ones, but by prayer.

(I decided to respond to this “Letter to God” in the form of my own. You will notice that I didn’t quite respond to things such as the world needing things. This is mainly because I, while I may live in the world, I am not of it. I do like to get things, but when it comes to the “world” wanting your blessings and your mercies……it just pains me to know that they are in it, as I sometimes am; a Christian who sometimes sees the Lords Word as a buffet table. This is not how it works. I am doing my best to change this in myself, but change takes time.)

There is also the parts about there being some ministers who live, for want of a better analogy, live on a higher plain than us. One man in particular comes to mind when I read the part about pastors leading larger than life lives than the people they are to Sheppard; his name is Joel Osteen. His “church” can be viewed live or as a recording or you can simply read one of his novels. The larger than life pastor lifestyle could be why some people seek out the smaller churches. I can’t really speak for them, but it is my opinion that a smaller church could be a better one. That is not proven and there has been, at least one that I know if, a time where a smaller church was ended up being as bad as a large one.

After reading this, this post makes me want to further my “Faith” even more and come closer to who He, my God is. Again as in the other post mentioned above, I want to have a “Paul” moment as I would hope that it would help me see. But then, at that point, what would faith truly be?
