Politics: Church Bunnies,

Church bunnies are those who attend services every time the doors are open, and, they attend practically every Christian conference that comes to town. They buy this DVD, and they buy that DVD, and usually, are taking notes while the pastor is preaching. However, it is really all just for show. Church bunnies also, are name droppers, and, they love to make everyone believe, that they know very important people, so that they themselves, will appear to be important. Church bunnies, are heavy gossipers, and they constantly keep mess or chaos going in the church. In fact, a lot of church bunnies reminds me of turtles. They stick their heads out from underneath their shells, and start mess or confusion in the church.  Then when all hell breaks loose, they stick their heads back up underneath their shells and hideout, until things cool off or blow over. However, the most interesting thing about church bunnies, is that they never seem to grow spiritually. One would think that, as much as they attend church services, including bible study, that there would be more spiritual growth among such individuals. However, this is not the case with church bunnies, because they attend church, first, out of habit, second, to be seen by others, third, to look for and find a mate, and fourth, to make business deals. In other words, Jesus Christ is not their top priority for attending church services. Church is just a place where bunnies love to hangout. Just as night clubs are places where many people love to hangout, especially on the weekends. For church bunnies, the church is strictly a place for social interaction and not a place for theological and spiritual development, and many of them love to quote biblical scriptures, in order that they might impress others, while at the some time, having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof. What church bunnies must understand, is that their number one reason for attending church services, is to praise, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, and not to show off their new wardrobe, or try to get in a position of leadership , just to be seen by others. If one has truly accepted Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and Savior, then he or she is already important. Therefore, there is no need for one to hangout at the church, engaging in festivities similiar to that of a clown.

Professor, if bunnies can’t hop around in church where else are they going to go? Church can’t multiply themselves from the inside, they have to reach out and gather people from the world. Where else would they be? Malls have them, clubs have them, and you may especially see them at sporting events. They exist everywhere else, why not the church? The church wouldn’t be a community without them. My definition is typically women who dress in tight, short, flashy clothes who come to church late and sit where they can be seen. They are loud and dramatic while cutting their eyes jealously at each other and inviting the men to look at them. They stay too long after service and will cuss you out leaving the parking lot. The church needs their tihte if they can learn how not to live off of 110% of their income. No matter how ravish they may live from Monday to Saturday night, the doors are always open for church bunnies. Who knows, the word may really hit them and change their hearts. Church is for everyone: sinners, backsliders, and hang-on church bunnies. What the church needs to work on is how to identify them and not give them a heavy job like prayer warrior or secretary. Let them work in the nursery or vacation bible school. There is a place for all God’s kids, even the dusty ones.

I believe these so call bunnies as you call them is a good description of them. They hop from one Christian event to the next. I have seen these kinds of people; they worship the Lord, raise their hands as a symbol of submission, and usually sing the loudest. They talk the talk but do not walk the walk. What happen to being doers of the word, and not hearers only? I do not understand why some people proclaim that they are Christians when I have seen and heard them outside the church circle cussing, drinking, smoking, and telling dirty jokes. Then there are people who have been going to church for a number of years and are nothing but hypocritical, saintism people who cannot walk in love. They are the most unforgiving people compare to non-going church people. I agree with you for some it is a social gathering with gossiping for instance like, “did you hear what sister so and so did” or the sister is getting it on with another woman’s husband or vice versa and who is wearing what which brings jealously. Personally, that is why I rather stay to myself too much backstabbing instead of being humble in the presence of the Lord and not fake like the hair on some people’s head…

  3. Professor Juhree you literally read my mind, I agree with your view in this one a 100%. I can relate to this. I myself joined a youth group at my church thinking I would find the spiritual guidance I was looking for. The help I need, as time went by people where messy they still are, some the people all they did was gossip and hate on each other. I did want to be involved is such nonce’s; at one point I was involved in a big mess myself. They seemed like really nice people, don’t get me wrong there are few that are, but most gossiped. I didn’t feel at peace anymore so I stop going, plus I felt like a hypocrite because, I like drinking; going out with friends to club and a church person is not suppose to do that. I stopped going and I feel better and not so much as a hypocrite, but at times I want to go back because I need that spiritual guidance and peace.

A Response To: Politics – Church Bunnies
It is so funny that this is a main topic since it is something that is always talked about within my family. Now, let me just say that my family is very much Christian and very much believers in God but very much NOT perfect.. I would like to think that the majority relatives of my family have a strong walk in faith even though it is derailed here and there since lets face it no human being is Jesus Christ. Me and my parents for example believe in our walk yet we do not always make it to service every single weekend. We share our knowledge with each other and others and it would be nice to go to every service but sometimes in reality life gets over ran by many things, kids, jobs, school, homework, late nights and we just cant find the time to make it. Not to mention our business is open on Sundays and we are the ones to run it. Now for some others in my family.. No matter what they make it to church and attend each retreat as well as bible study yet they are the ones to fall and become manipulated into this somewhat plastic reality of life and think that just because they go to church that nothing else they do is wrong. They are the ones to by outfits just to be seen in at service and they go to find the gossip and discuss even gossip about themselves or their children. I have gone to church with these relatives and the most important thing on their mind was who they were going out to eat with after service and where. I would like for people to just be about God when they attended church but that will never fully happen. Church is like the older highs school. Same things different Sunday. Will it ever change? Probably not, you just need to stay true to YOURSELF and YOUR walk with God.

  5. Lilian Cuevas says:

Completely agree, these “Church Bunnies” seem to be everywhere.I grew up in church and this has always been seen. These people spit their venom left to right, and like to be a stumbling stone for others. When they see another member being used by God or being a blessing for someone els’s life, they start getting to work and spreading rumors. It’s sad because church bunnies have literally made some of the congregation leave. This will always be around, but the real body of Christ needs to stay firm and resist because the devil uses these kind of people to destroy the church.

  6. Edgar Cordero says:

I found your article very interesting Mr. Juhree. I personally have been around this people that you call “church bunnies.” Ha ha, I’ve never heard someone refer to these type of people calling them church bunnies though. I am a new born christian myself. I’ve been in the faith for about four years now. Throughout my christian walk I have seen these type of people as the ones mentioned in this article. Portrating a type of godliness in the outside but when examining their life and loooking at their fruit one can truely see that they are a just made up, all false and stuff. They are many different reasons why this people put up a front, some bacause of their family, some to find a mate, and others just lie to themselves for whatever strange reason. These people are somewhat like the pharisses of Jesus times, looking clean in the outside putting up a show like they got it all together but rotten and dirty from the inside. At first I use to get mad when I would notice someone wasn’t really a christian but just putting up a show but now that Iam more mature in the Faith it just gets me sad. It gets me sad because this people don’t understand the wrath that lies in there heads for doing this. These people don’t feel the need of a savior that we all should all have. I totally agree with your statements in this article. We should pray for “church bunnies” because Christ is soon to come back for his Church.

  7. Victoria says:

Agree on this one! I believe that everyone worships in their own way, but church bunnies brake my heart. If you feel like you have to prove something at church, have the prettiest outfit, and are their to start drama your their for the wrong reasons. God only wants you to be yourself. To want to have a relationship with him. Their is no such thing as perfect… God is the only one who holds thats trophy. Church bunnies don’t know what the love for God really means. My spring brake was not how i imagined it at all. Over spring brake I lost a friend who drowned in Lake Ray Hubbard. He was an amazing guy. He lived for God everyday. Always sharing the word. He did more things in his 19 yrs of being alive than someone who lived a long life! I don’t think I will ever understand why he was called home so early, but I do know he was the real thing. He’s in the place he always talked about going to one day. Where as church bunnies Church bunnies are not there for the right reasons. Where my friend was. Im not saying I wish church bunnies replace my friends life, but this past week I have realized that we don’t need to take life for granted. We never know when our time is up. Like my 19 yr old friend. When we go to church we need everyone to be their for God, and to be their to worship. We don’t need church bunnies to pull us down. We need to be focused on where we are going after this world, because what comes next is soo much better than this world here.

  8. Priscilla Nyanta says:

If there is one thing that gets under my skin more than anything that will be pretenders and that exactly what church bunnies are. They always try to portray the righteous act when people are around but behind closed doors they run down all the things christians are not meaant to do. Due to this many people have taken christianity for a joke becuase they see all these people preaching them to do this and that while they are doing otherwise. Church bunnies are someway similar to corrupt politicians they always make promises or say things with their mouths but yet do all the things they claim to be against. Its a shame that we have soo many of them are everywhere in our churches today. All I can say is no one have a gun to your head to do anything so if you do not have to do not do it. Its a bad reflection for the ones that are trying to live right.

  9. Jenna Nigh says:

After reading this I was reminded of Matthew 6:5, when Christ tells his disciples, “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.” Church bunnies to me are the ones that seem convicted enough to go to church for the “important holidays” like christmas or easter. Church, to me, is the body of Christ. Having a relationship with other believers and being able to worship and exalt Christ in any place, not just the building deemed the “church”. To understand what Christianity is truly about, you do not have to join a church, become baptized, or even spread the gospel. You have to understand that God gave His Son for a sinful world, and because of that love he has for us, and the love we have for Him, then you should be baptized to show society you are a Christian, then you share the gospel, once you have repented and can truly understand the true meaning of what God gave to us. American Christianity has become so watered down and so numb to what God is. He is a just God and a sovereign and merciful God, the American church has gotten so far away from what Christianity is. Seeing “church bunnies” should only encourage true Christ followers to work harder and show God’s love more so that these “church bunnies” understand what worship and church is all about. You come not to meet people, show off your latest outfit, or even hear a message to make you feel good. You go to Church to worship at the feet of God and give it all to Him. You dedicate your life to God. You go to church to give, not to get.

  10. Hector H. says:

I think every religion of every continent has a form of church bunnies. It’s funny because I have seen it in two forms. As a child I grew up in a Mexican Baptist church. You knew every Sunday who was there to be seen and point fingers. There were always those who relegated the sermon (in private) to those that they though needed it most. I remember listening to members speak outside church, or in little clicks, of members they wish were present so that the message got to them or were hoping that The Lord was directing that message to certain someone cause they desperately needed. I also believe that everyone has done this to a certain extent. Maybe intentionally or unitentionally people have pointed fingers or been the sermon assigners. Usually you can see within a few services who the bunnies are.
As I said earlier I have seen this type of action in multiple churches and really do not think any church is different in this manner. I started to going to an English speaking church and was really shocked (because I thought this only happened in Mexican churches) to see it at this new church. The problem with bunnies is that they do not know the harm they cause or think that they are not the problem. If everyone was more like them then the church would be perfect, raise millions of dollars, and convert every lost sinner under God’s green earth. However if everyone was like the church bunnies then we would be, as Christians, be more despised than we are now.
Every church of every nation will have it’s church bunny/bunnies but it is up to you if choose to conversate and help in their propaganda or be a genuine member that cares for the church and it’s members.

  11. Austin Bell says:

There is a lot of truth to what you are saying professor. I am a christian and attend church regularly. I do see many of these “church bunnies” also known as hypocrits. I do feel that its all for show with some of them, and what happens behind closed doors and what people see from these people are two completely different things. The whole wordrobe thing is a bit contradicting because yes some people do dress up to try to impress others, but some wear a starched shirt, and slacks because they want to dress in their sunday best for Jesus in respect to worshiping God in his house.

  12. Mary G. says:

It is very sad that even the church is being used as a place on interest for people to get what they want. There is a lot of church bunnies that are first to goissip and talk bad about others. Lots of the time they are the first one to throw the first stone and accuse and critize others when they need to take a strong, hard look in the mirror. Its a convience for them to memorize and act like they are preaching the word of GOD; however, as soon as they go home they are not practices what they preach. The day will come will they will have to face the man above and protest to him why they chose to act this way.

  13. Anakeisha Andries says:

When ever i see Church bunnies i just have to stop and look at them and wonder what do they really get out of it. I stopped going to a lot churches here in Dallas because of some these people. I came to give thanks for all my blessings not to deal with these holier that thou men and women who can not conduct themselves as the should. Yes i know I should not let these people get to me to the point I leave church but too often these Church bunnies are the pastors wives and the heads of the church how can I or anyone feel comfortable knowing all of this is going on. 7.05 Tuesday
